A tenor (of course) with a geeky love for music theory and analysis, I started this blog three years ago to try and bridge the gap between vocal performing and theoretical analysis by showing that the two are simply not as different as one might think. I hope you enjoy my insight into great works of vocal music, but more importantly I hope you add some great ideas to the discussion!
Alex is currently the Opera Center Coordinator for OPERA America's new National Opera Center in midtown Manhattan. Alex recently completed his Bachelor of Music degree at Ithaca College, performing a recital of works by Gurney, Poulenc, Rachmaninov, and Schubert. Specializing in character roles, Alex recently sang the role of 'Monostatos' in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte with Hubbard Hall Opera Theater in Cambridge, NY. Other favorite roles include, 'Flute' in Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream, 'Orfeo' in Monteverdi's L'Orfeo, and 'The Vain Man' in Portman's The Little Prince. Alex is also an active composer, and has had his pieces performed by members of the Albany Symphony Orchestra and at Ithaca College.
Alex lives in Washington Heights, Manhattan. He loves music, coffee, public transportation, microbrews, and cats.
